What are SERPS?
SERPS stand for Search Engine Results Page's. You will hear this term a lot in the world of seo. Every time a search query is carried out on any search engine the results you see on your screen are called SERPS.
Does page rank affect SERPS?
This one is more difficult to answer as no-one really knows the answer for positive (or Google's algorithm). In our opinion page rank does have some authority when deciding your websites SERP position for popular keywords but less so for some long tailed keywords.
Are SERPS really that important?
Yes they are, there are a lot of people that have the misconception that page rank is everything - well they are wrong. The whole purpose of seo and seo techniques is to make your website more search engine friendly so you receive more free unique visitors. These "free" visitors are what you get when you have good SERPS, all seo and seo companies should aim for this one goal as a priority.
How to get good SERPS?
Well again there is a lot of debate as to how you get good results in search engines. You will find many companies that charge thousands of dollars and guarantee the number 1 spot in Google. This kind of guarantee is absolute rubbish – don’t listen to it. There are a few basic rules to follow that will guarantee good results and increase your overall SERPS.
1. Make sure you have a good title with an accurate description of what your website services include.
2. Create an accurate Meta description and keywords, don’t lie and put in non relevant words, this will count against you.
3. Have a good coded website that follows the Web 2.0 rules.
4. Have fresh content on your website, an RSS feed is a good example, this will provide good content and regular updates to your website – Google loves this!
5. Have some good quality links to your website using good anchor text.
Follow these 5 simple rules and you will 100% see an improvement in your SERPS.
