Meta Tages and SEO?
A term you come across in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is “Meta tags”. The composition of Meta tags are strategy oriented and writing meta titles demands special attention.
Meta tags are codes divided into the title, the keyword and the description. The function of a Meta tag is to inform the search engine bot about the contents of a page. When you type site: the domain name in a search engine, the first blue line is the Meta title. The text that follows is the description. The Meta keywords cannot be viewed in the listing.
The initial popularity of Meta tags was due to their indispensability for getting high rankings. There were widespread discussions on perfecting the tags for Google, Yahoo and MSN. They are still an essential part of SEOs but not as much as they used to be. This decline in their significance has resulted in negligent writing, especially for Meta titles.
The meta title is what has the pertinent keywords in a particular page. Either you can include one keyword phrase that is more than three-four words long or you can put in as many as 13 to 16 phrases in the page. Both are applicable methods, but maximum importance must be given to the content of the meta title.
Another significant use of the meta title is to attract regular users to your page. As the search results emerge into the user’s screen, it is the meta title (the blue line) that prompts the user to visit a page. The more appealing the meta title, the better your chances of letting people know about your site. Although this is not part of SEO, it is an important function of meta titles nevertheless.
