Google Plus Changing in SERPS

So it seems that Google is currently in the process of updating how Google+ brand/business pages are being displayed in the SERPS.

Besides the new thumbnails showing the old brand logos has reduced in size and the business description now removed.  At the moment (9am GMT) the thumbnails are not showing fully in the UK but they are on google.com – most likely because it’s rolling out now.

What else is interesting is that Google now seems to be cutting off posts after 24 hours, probably in a bid to keep results fresh:

You can see that in the UK for a number of brands that do actually have quite a good presence on Google+ they now do NOT trigger their listing in the search results:

  • Toyota has over 200k +1′s and over 2 million followers
  • Burberry has over 2 million +1′s and 2 million followers

If anyone else has any more information on this update please let me know.

  1. You are not logged into Google, that is why you are not seeing G+ brand panels.

Just like social search (SPYW) you won’t see G+ unless you are logged in.

  2. I noticed odd things happening. We don’t have a good presence on G+ but we update it anyway. For a month or so our G+ posts disappeared from branded search results and I thought it might be because we had a small number of followers, but they’ve come back in the last few days. I think Google might just be testing things.

Chris, I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure you don’t have to be logged in to Google to see the brand’s G+ posts appear in brand SERPs

  3. Chris – sorry but ive seen these panels in non-logged in searches too.

I have no idea why, but a site i am working on had them and then lost them the following week. They seem to pop back in every now and again.

I think ensuring you have a link on the homepage helps too. The site i saw in question used a author tag in their header that links them to their account.

    Cheers
